Puppy Vaccinations

Maintain the safety of your new puppy by following a vaccination schedule.

Congratulations – you have a new puppy!

You’ve anticipated the new arrival by ‘puppy-proofing’ your home and had lots of fun choosing the crate, bed, blanket, toys and other supplies they will need. This frisky little creature is sure to bring you much joy. In return, you can make a major contribution to your pet’s longevity, happiness and quality of life, by providing him with good nutrition, loving attention in a safe, sanitary environment and regular checkups at your veterinarian. At Acadia Veterinary Hospital, we want your puppy to have long and healthy life from the start. Building a healthy immunity is an integral part of this.

What vaccinations do you offer to new puppies?

Here at Acadia Veterinary Hospital, the veterinarian will have a discussion with you about what vaccines are recommended for your new puppy.

Why is it important to properly vaccinate your puppy?

It is important to follow your veterinarian’s vaccine/booster schedule in order to adequately build up your puppy’s immune system. This way it will have the antibodies necessary to fight off certain diseases. As the saying goes: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!”

What is an appropriate schedule for puppy vaccinations?

We recommend that puppies receive their first core vaccination at 8-weeks-old, followed by vaccine booster at 12 and 16 weeks of age.

How should you prepare your puppy for its first vaccination visit?

You want to make going to the veterinarian a pleasant experience. You can even bring your puppy for a visit to the clinic beforehand when there will be no needles involved. Bring some of their favourite treats or toys. Make this a happy occasion!
